This week was an important week for me as I was once again given the opportunity to perform a computer refresh. Before this internship class began I had already refreshed dozens of computers, but required assistance and constant checking of documentation. While there is nothing wrong with using documentation to follow along and complete tasks, I set the goal for myself this quarter to be able to complete a refresh with the only documentation being my mind. Truthfully, I don't think I will work this way in the future, but I did do it.
Just today I received a laptop - a Latitude 3540 - to refresh. It was still in the box. I took it out as usual, added it's ID and Mac address as an object to SCCM and successfully paired it, and booted into our imaging stick. The task sequence ran smoothly, and I was soon greeted with the beautiful, beautiful Windows log in screen.
The refresh is not yet complete, though, because while the first half of a refresh is receiving and updating a laptop, the second half is delivering it and uninstalling the device it is replacing. That is a journey for next week.
Alongside this refresh I also updated and nearly completed my scheduling application. I learned more about excel and how to use conditional formatting to 'pretty up' the sheets so that they are more readable for my manager.
Next week I will complete the refresh by reaching out to the appropriate staff, coming up with a time, and delivering the device.
