At the start of this quarter, in my internship, I set out to complete 4 distinct objectives:
Create an application to aid my manager in scheduling staff as evenly as possible throughout the week within the given availabilities of each student technician
Create an application to quickly update the passwords of class accounts and to email those responsible for using them
Become an "active directory power user"
Complete a Full Computer Refresh
The main focus throughout this quarter did end up being on the first two objectives. They were the most time-intensive and also allowed me to learn the most. However, I did put effort into the final two goals and even completed several computer refreshes more comfortably than I ever have.
Overall, I think I had a successful internship because it overlapped my other two courses significantly. I really honed in on Python this quarter as all three of my classes required it, and as a bonus I learned VBA and how to better utilize Excel as a tool in the workplace. It is my understanding that Excel is a nearly universal tool and the better someone is at using it the more powerful and desirable a worker they are. While this may not be that great of a resume entry, I do believe that the skills I have picked up with Excel this quarter will come up again in the future, and I will be better prepared than most!
Another success I had was in the completion of 2 individual computer refreshes. I am comfortable with the process but I have never completed a full refresh on my own so it was nice to see that I have grown into my own and don't require as much guidance as I used to.
The hardest parts of completing my objectives were definitely the 2 programs, however since they did get most of my focus I was more successful in completing them than I was at becoming an Active Directory power user. Admittedly, I received very little training with Active Directory and can't say I'm any better off at it than I was at the start of the quarter.
My final thought for this quarter is: should I upload my two applications to GitHub?
