Two weeks ago, your journal prompt laid out a professional networking strategy with some immediate tasks; discuss what progress have you made on them.
I had created a Linked In profile to make use of all the people I have met at Olympic College by ensuring I get them into my network before I move on to another job and these people forget my name entirely. I have spoken with people in the IT industry and looked up testimonials online and determined that a powerful and professional presence on Linked In (or similar networking sites) can lead to opportunities.
If something as simple as adding people on Linked In and sharing what I know and can do with the world can lead to potential opportunities, what's the harm? My page on Linked In still has a lot of work required, but what is important to me in this short-term is that I have reached out to dozens of people from Olympic College and joined each other's networks.
I have even been able to add and connect with a few VP's!
However, I am not entirely happy with the current state of my profile. I would like to flesh it out and spend time focusing on ME rather than on growing my network. This would require adding or refining my skills, job experience, etc.
I see that a lot of people post their accomplishments on the site as well. This may be something I should do. Such as: posting certificates and DataCamp accomplishments. Is posting these types of certificates normal? What would people think if I am posting all my python certificates? Do they even care? Well, I have a bit to learn about the use and etiquette of this website...
Progress-wise: I set out to add 100 individual people to my network. I am not quite here, though, but that's okay. I set the goal of reaching 100 people to be completed when I leave OC, not by the end of the quarter!
