Senior Internship - Week 3 Progress Report

Last week I had set the groundwork for my upcoming projects at the Help Desk by speaking with my supervisor and ensuring it would be both possible and worthwhile for me to pursue these projects on work time. I gave myself the goal for the following week (now this week) that I would begin to learn how to apply Python and VBA to my project.

I believe I have exceeded any expectations I may have had. Using AI assistance, I followed a workflow I have used a lot in my personal life for projects like game mods and desktop utility tools. First, I spent time in ChatGPT prompting it, altering my prompts, and re-prompting, as well as editing the code it gave me, to attempt to get a working demo accomplishing the scheduling features I had wanted. I found that this was either impossible or required an incredible algorithm. So, I have gained useful information going forward and have begun to plan out a better approach to the scheduling application.

Next week I expect to flesh out the data structure for my scheduling program. This will consist of a way to best gather input data from each employee (their requested schedules) and turning it into a useful, readable csv file that is a list of each shift request from each employee. This will be the first major milestone in my project.
