Q: Have you discovered something new not yet expounded on based on bringing together the disparate sources on the topic?
A: While not new perse, I found and watched a podcast hosted by Lex Fridman starring Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI. At around 1 hour and 23 minutes, Fridman and Altman are discussing up the topic of "Artificial General Intelligence" and when they believe humanity will achieve it. While on the topic of AGI and it's eventual impact, Fridman compares the global impact of AGI being on the level of Google. To me, this was a very warming sentiment to hear, because I have found very little people discussing or even mentioning the similarities between ChatGPT and Google, and especially the similarities of their impact on the world. When Google hit the market, the age of information began. When AGI hits the market, well, who knows what will happen?
I wanted to understand Sam Altman's perspective and that led me to watching Lex Fridman's podcast in which Sam starred. From beginning to end the video consisted of Sam dodging the questions presented to him, but interestingly enough he does present a reasonable response to the comparison between ChatGPT and Google. "Does the Global Economy feel any different to you now or materially different to you now than it did before we watched GPT-4? I think you would say no." To Sam, ChatGPT is not the product he intends to create to ultimately leave his impact on the worlds grand stage, which is another theme discussed in the video.
In the end, I enjoyed watching this video and listening to his perspective, and found it enlightening to hear his perspective that ChatGPT is not yet on the level of impact of Google, and my main takeaway is that Sam is aiming higher than ChatGPT, and truly does intend to release something he expects will rival not only the power of Google, but its impact on the world culture as well.
